First Aid Station Requirements
Station Contents:
- π¦ A First Aid Box containing the items required by the Regulation.
- π A Notice Board displaying:
- Form 82 (Board’s poster).
- The valid first aid certificates of qualified workers on duty.
- An inspection card with:
- Date of the most recent inspection.
- Signature of the person conducting the inspection.
Station Supervision:
- A qualified worker must be in charge of the first aid station, working in the immediate vicinity.
- Must hold a valid first aid certificate as per the required standards.
Accessibility:
- First aid stations must be easily accessible for prompt treatment at all times when work is in progress.
First Aid Box Minimum Requirements
- π First Aid Manual (Current edition of a standard St. John Ambulance First Aid Manual).
- π Safety Pins (1 card).
- π Dressings:
- Adhesive dressings (various sizes, quantity depending on the number of workers).
- Sterile gauze pads.
- Gauze bandages (multiple sizes and quantities).
- Triangular bandages.
- Field dressings or sterile bandage compresses.
Employer Responsibilities
- π’ Post Form 82 regarding accident reporting and first aid treatment.
- π° Maintain First Aid Appliances at the employer’s expense.
- ποΈ Accident Record Keeping:
- Date, time, nature of accident, and first aid treatment details.
- Names of witnesses.
- π Quarterly Inspections of the first aid box, with an inspection card recording details.
First Aid Room (for 200+ Workers)
For workplaces with 200+ workers, the employer must provide a First Aid Room equipped with:
- π©Ί First Aid Manual (Current edition).
- πͺ Instruments (e.g., dressing scissors, forceps, safety pins).
- π° Furnishings (e.g., running water, washbasins, sterilizer, sanitary disposal receptacle).
- ποΈ Furniture (e.g., couch or stretcher, blankets).
- Registered Nurse or Certified Worker to be in charge of the room.
Construction, Transportation, and Remote Site Requirements
- ποΈ Construction Sites: A first aid station must be provided in the time office or onsite vehicle/building.
- π Transport Vehicles: Vehicles used to transport workers must be equipped with a first aid box.
- π¦Ί Bush and Farm Sites: Central location for a first aid box containing basic supplies.
- π Railways and Heavy Equipment: All units and equipment must have first aid kits with required items.
General Contractor Responsibilities
- ποΈ General Contractors must maintain first aid stations for workers on construction, repair, or demolition projects.
Additional Provisions for Remote Workers
- π Vehicles and Equipment used for transporting or operating in remote areas must be equipped with the appropriate first aid kit, including a First Aid Manual and essential dressings.
